Getting into the swing of things

The first full week of the high school golf season has come to an end and a handful of Madison County teams are off to good start.

Boys golf

London 178,

Urbana 200

The Red Raiders picked up their first dual match of the season Wednesday, Aug. 12 knocking off Urbana by a healthy margin (22 strokes).

London was led by Ethan Drummond’s solid round of 41. Teammate Jacob Michel was a shot back with a 42, while Garrett King (45) and Joseph Johnson (50) also contributed to the winning score. Erik Snyder (54) and Andy Fullmer (66) also played for the Red Raiders.

Heath 350,

Licking Valley 360,

Jonathan Alder 371

The Pioneers came out on the losing end of a tri-match played Wednesday at The Players Club at Foxfire.

Alder was paced by the play of Jon Peters, who fired an 87.

The rest of the scores saw Joey Petrella and Zach Starr card 94s, while Logan Woods and Tyler Unger each came in with 96s.

MSL Preseason


The two Madison County golf teams in the Mid-State League finished well behind the front-running Bexley Lions at the league’s Preseason Tournament held at Homestead Springs Golf Course Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Bexley fired a round of 421 and cruised past the rest of the field. Teays Valley was second (448) and followed by Logan Elm (460), Madison-Plains (514), London (572) and Circleville (591).

Christan Bowshier led the Golden Eagles with a round of 106. Regan Rubel (129), Blair Bryant (133) and Connor Hunter (146) rounded out of the rest of the team’s score.

London was paced by Jessie Thompson and her 116. Jordan Marco (138), Brook Carter (148), Katie Hill (170) and Emma Douglas (175) also contributed for the Red Raiders.
