Streetfest to honor military women

The women laying down there lives for the country will be honored in West Jefferson on its birthday.

The theme of this year’s Fourth of July Streetfest will be honoring women in the armed forces.

Bob Harper, the main organizer for Streetfest, said former VFW quartermaster and Streetfest treasurer Don Coonfare came up with the idea in the planning for this year’s festival.

“He said, ‘Why don’t we honor our ladies in uniform,’” Harper said.

Coonfare passed away in March, which Harper said makes this theme special.

“That makes it even more important,” Harper said.

Harper said Maria Kelly, a One-Star Brigadier General for the National Guard, will be arranging and organizing the honoring of military women in the ceremony.
