Wethington wins Battelle award

Madison-Plains Intermediate School principal Kim LeGault, right, applauds teacher Jenny Wethington for her award from Battelle for Kids. She was recognized at the Madison-Plains Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.

Jenny Wethington is a teacher who goes above and beyond her job description. Her supervisor, Madison-Plains Intermediate Principal Kim LeGault, recognized that and thought someone else should recognize it, too.

As a result of LeGault’s nomination, Wethington, a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher, won a Battelle For Kids District Educator Award. LeGault brought Wethington’s honor to light at the Madison-Plains Board of Education meeting on Tuesday.

LeGault said Wethington was the only teacher from central Ohio chosen for the award and was chosen from several hundred applicants.

“She (Wethington) reaches beyond to students with any kind of need,” LeGault said.

Wethington, an intervention specialist, has been teaching for 15 years, 10 of them at Madison-Plains.

The Sidney native was always urged by her father and her grandfather to give serious thought to her life’s work and to do her best at it.

She resides with her family in Mount Sterling.
