Antique furniture and upscale consignment have made their way to 9 S. Main St.

Area business leaders gathered Monday afternoon for a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony for R&R Furnishings, the latest business to open in downtown London.

“I love fashion, I love to decorate,” owner Rosa Gabriel said. “This is what I always wanted to do when I retired.”

The store is currently stocked with furniture, crystal and china dishware, delicate dolls and Christmas decor.

The decor will change with the seasons. The store will also carry poinsettias of all sizes and colors throughout the Christmas season.

Many of the pieces are antique or refurbished. Some come from the owner’s overflowing home and others are sold on consignment.

But all are upscale, Gabriel said.

Before stepping into her new role as retail business owner, Gabriel worked in the accounting department at General Motors.

Her brother, Roy Hackney, is helping her run the store. Gabriel moved to London in 1980 and Hackney followed in 1982.

“This is my home,” she said. “I want to support my town, I want to see it grow.”

Madison County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director David Kell thanked Gabriel for opening a business in her community.

Local business leader Steve Lelonek cited the store’s opening as another step forward to upgrade the downtown’s reputation and fill empty storefronts.

Gabriel plans to offer a punch card to customers. They will receive one punch for every $25 spent in the store. A full punch card will be worth $25 in store credit.

R&R Furnishings will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

To sell an item on consignment, contact Gabriel at 614-506-0329.
