The Madison-Plains Local School District added two assistant principals to its administrative staff Tuesday evening at the board of education’s regular meeting.

Jason Weese, will join the staff of the 7-12 school while Brad Miller will move from teacher to assistant principal in the K-6 facility.

Miller has been a teacher for 20 years, all 20 in Madison County. Prior to his tenure at Madison-Plains, Miller taught math in the London City Schools.

“It was time for a change,” Miller said of his move from teaching to administration. For his three-year contract of 215 days, Miller’s salary will be $76,000.

Weese returns to Central Ohio from Mt. Healthy High School in Hamilton County, where he was an assistant principal since August 2013. He grew up in Grandview Heights area of Franklin County. His wife, April, recently took an administrative position in the Southwestern City School District.

For his 235-day, contract for three years, Weese will earn $92,000 annually.

Speaking for the search committee, Kim LeGault, middle school principal said the field of candidates was sizable at 36 for the K-6 position, 72 for the 7-12 position.

“There’s a lot of interest in Madison-Plains,” she said.

The interview groups were comprised of not only teachers and current administrators, but people from the community and classified employees. The process was extensive.

Commenting on the approval of the two candidates, 7-12 principal Matt Unger added, “It was a group decision.”

The hires were approved as part of a new administration structure the district is beginning this coming school year.

The district will have two principals and two assistant principals for the coming year and discontinue its present four-principal configuration.

Unger, who had previously served as high school principal, was named principal for grades seventh through 12th in April. Principal for grades kindergarten through sixth will be Kim LeGault, formerly a junior high principal.

The assistant principal positions will be of cost savings to the district, Dettwiller said last month.
