The Madison County Airport Authority is moving forward with about $700,000 in grant applications for its new T-hangar.
Airport treasurer Sandra Ballard met with Madison County commissioners Tuesday to discuss the topic. She said she is putting the finishing touches on one grant, and moving another grant request farther down the runway.
Commissioners Mark Forrest and Paul Gross, and prosecutor Steve Pronai signed copies of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant request for funds to build a the new hangar.
The project’s cost is estimated at $796,228, with 10 percent of that figure — approximately $79,622 — comprising the local share. The county will pay the local share.
The new hangar, with a 10 aircraft capacity, will provide additional income from rental fees for the airport. It has been reported there is a waiting list for aircraft storage at the airport, located on U.S. Route 40, just west of the intersection of State Route 38.
In other business, commissioners entered into three executive sessions on Tuesday.
The first, held in the morning, was for the purpose of discussing contract negotiations with the sheriff’s association.
The second session, held later in the morning, was for the purpose of reviewing an audit with the state auditor’s representative and the county auditor.
A third session was held in the afternoon to discuss with Union County commissioners pending litigation.
