The London branch of the Rent-to-Own store recently donated chairs to the London Fire Department.
About seven chairs were delivered Saturday to replace worn out, damaged chairs, which had also been donated to the department.
The initiative was triggered by resident Henry Comer, who said after spending some time at the fire department earlier this year he noticed the department’s furniture is worn out. He said he has been working with the store’s manager for about year to make the project come to fruition.
“Some people joke and say that all the fire department does is sit around, and after staying there for 24 hours I see that they do just sit around,” he said. “They sit around waiting to save someone’s life and I think that they should at least be comfortable while they’re waiting for that siren to let them know that someone needs their help.”
Firefighters work 24-hour shifts.
The majority of the department’s possessions — such as furniture and appliances — are donated, according to Chief Todd Eades.
