Crashes down over July 4 weekend

With a heightened presence on the county’s roadways over the Fourth of July weekend, the Ohio Highway Patrol achieved its goal of lowering the number of vehicular crashes.

West Jefferson Post commander Lt. Marty Fellure said over the July 4 weekend, only four crashes were reported in Madison County.

“We were fortunate there,” Fellure said.

With additional state troopers on the road, funded by federal highway safety dollars, the number of traffic citations increased, but it was not a record for that holiday period.

“Our goal was to reduce crashes and fatalities,” Fellure said. “There were no serious injuries in the crashes. It was a very positive weekend for us.”
