Hall, Shahs nab HOJGA titles

WALDO — A perfect weather day prevailed for junior golfers at the second Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association (HOJGA) tournament held at Kings Mill’s par-70 golf course Thursday, June 14. The tournament was sponsored by Sims Bros. Recycling and American Legion No. 584 of Marion.

Nance Meet runs course Saturday

On Saturday, Sept. 29, cross country teams from across the state to participate in the Annual Erin L. Nance Distance Classic, to be held at London Country Club. Since 1998, the event has been held in memory of a LHS cross country runner who died in a car accident her senior year. Her father Terry and mother Connie – and a number of dedicated volunteers – work hard to make it the marquee event of its kind in Ohio. Prior to 1998 (and since it began in 1974) it was known as the London Invitational.

’65 LHS grad still going

WESTERVILLE — A 1965 London High School graduate recently competed in the Ohio Senior Olympics State Games at the Westerville Senior Center Saturday, June 30. The 3-on-3 basketball team, MFRC (Marion-Franklin Rec Center), finished third in its 70-74 age group, thereby qualifying it for the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, New Mexico in June 2019. Team members were London High School grad John O’Connell a current resident of Grandview, Bob Marvin of Gahanna, Gary Byas of Sunbury and Larry Miller of Cambridge. All four players plan on playing in 2019.

COLUMBUS — Following a successful major medical procedure in June for outgoing Executive Director Dr. Dan Ross, the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors has placed incoming Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass into his new post as leader of the OHSAA earlier than planned.
