Search warrant served at Ohio comedian mayor’s home

HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) — Authorities have searched the Hillsboro home of a southwest Ohio mayor who’s also a veteran standup comedian.

The Times-Gazette of Hillsboro reports (http://bit.ly/1SdCvAD ) that a search warrant and affidavit indicate investigators were seeking evidence of official misconduct by Drew Hastings, including about his legal residence for election purposes. The newspaper says an affidavit shows another search warrant was carried out earlier at Hastings’ farm to seize his city-owned cellphone. Investigators have also been gathering water bills for Hastings’ properties.

The newspaper reported earlier that Hastings has been under investigation for issues including allegations he had building materials and carpet from his private properties dumped into city trash bins. A Highland County judge recently dismissed a civil complaint against the second-term mayor.

Hastings says it’s a “politically driven witch hunt.”
