2 officers hurt when suspect rams cruisers in traffic stop

CLEVELAND (AP) — Officials say two Cleveland police officers were hurt during a traffic stop when a man sped off, ramming two police cruisers.

Police say the officers found the man sleeping behind the wheel of a car early Thursday and woke him up.

The officers removed a handgun near his feet and tried to wake him up. That’s when police say the man suddenly put the car in gear and slammed into two police cruisers, knocking one officer to the ground and dragging the other for a short period of time.

Police say the first officer suffered knee and leg injuries. The second suffered leg and back injuries. Both are expected to be OK.

The car was later found crashed on Interstate 490. The driver wasn’t inside and hasn’t been arrested.
