MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says a technology services company working in Minnesota has agreed to pay $140,000 to settle a transgender discrimination complaint.
An EEOC investigation found Ellucian barred an employee from access to her workplace on a college campus a day after she told her co-workers that she planned to transition from male to female. Ellucian, headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, was performing contracted informational technology work and was asked by the college to remove the employee from campus.
The EEOC says Ellucian complied.
The college is not named in the complaint.
Ellucian spokeswoman Jewell Jones said Thursday that the company is pleased the matter is resolved.
The EEOC says the agreement requires Ellucian to modify its employee conduct policy to include gender identity in its anti-discrimination provisions and conduct appropriate training.
