Senate matchups with female Democratic candidates

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats will have female Senate candidates on the ballot in nine states in November, a near-record. A look at the candidates and matchups:


Pennsylvania: Democrat Katie McGinty vs. GOP Sen. Pat Toomey.

New Hampshire: Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan vs. GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte.

North Carolina: Democrat Deborah Ross vs. GOP Sen. Richard Burr.

Illinois: Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth vs. GOP Sen. Mark Kirk.

Iowa: Patty Judge is one of several Democrats facing off in a June 7 primary for the nomination to take on GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley.

Arizona: Democratic Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick vs. GOP Sen. John McCain.

Nevada: Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto vs. GOP Rep. Joe Heck for the open seat created by the retirement of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.

California: State Attorney General Kamala Harris and Rep. Loretta Sanchez, both Democrats, vying for open seat created by Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer’s retirement.

Washington state: Democratic Sen. Patty Murray is seeking re-election.
