The calendar says May 5, but it’s Cinco de Mayo for anyone celebrating all things Mexican.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to hold his final Cinco de Mayo reception at The White House Thursday afternoon.
San Antonio chef Johnny Hernandez tells KSAT-TV that he will cook Mexican cuisine for the event including food from the city of Puebla. That’s where an undermanned Mexican army defeated French forces on May 5, 1862.
Many have the impression that May 5 is Mexico’s Independence Day, but it’s not. That day is celebrated each year on Sept. 16.
Cinco de Mayo isn’t even a federal holiday in Mexico.
