ORTING, Wash. (AP) — A rescue operation is underway for two girls stuck on a steep hillside above a river in Washington state.
Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer says the girls, ages 12 and 15, waded across the fast-moving Puyallup (pew-AL’-up) River south of Seattle on Thursday. The girls then climbed up the embankment and were unable to get back down.
Troyer says rescue crews can’t come down the steep slope from the top so a swift water rescue team and other emergency personnel were working to cross the river and climb up to them.
No other details were immediately available.
