Police probe if wind played role in fatal 7-story fall

TEANECK, N.J. (AP) — Police are investigating whether powerful wind gusts played a role in the death of a man who fell off the roof of a seven-story office building in New Jersey.

Teaneck police say Clifford LeMay, the building manager at the Glenpointe office complex, was found on the ground around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say the 57-year-old had gone up to the roof to check for damage from the strong winds overnight. But it’s still not clear if he was blown off the roof and hit a tree in the fall.

Police say the death appears to be an accident and no foul play is suspected.

The National Weather Service recorded a peak wind gust in the area of 32 mph around the time of the accident.

This story has been corrected to show that LeMay was 57 years old, not 56, as per his employer.
