Fire officials: 1 dead in ammonia leak at seafood warehouse

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Fire Department says one person has died after ammonia leaked from a seafood warehouse in the city’s Seaport District.

Fire officials say on Twitter that one man died in what state police described as a “large-scale ammonia spill.”

Officials say the leak at Stavis Seafoods Warehouse was reported around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Emergency responders were working to shut off a main valve.

Several nearby streets were closed off, and police asked all businesses and residents to shelter in place or stay away from the area.

Fire officials say the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
