MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee’s state police agency is investigating what led an officer to shoot at a suspect who had children inside his vehicle in Murfreesboro.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine said Monday a city officer responding to a domestic violence call fired at 27-year-old Michael Kilpatrick on Sunday night in a motel parking lot after he tried to ram officers with a vehicle that had three children inside. DeVine said Kilpatrick led police on a chase, hitting five police cruisers with his vehicle before he surrendered.
A statement from the Murfreesboro Police Department says the suspect told officers he was shot, and he was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His condition wasn’t immediately available. The children were not injured.
Authorities did not immediately release the name of the officer.
