NATIONAL SUMMARY

Showers and gusty winds will continue to plague New England

tomorrow, but calmer, drier and more seasonable conditions

are in store for the mid-Atlantic. Summer-like heat is

forecast to bake the Plains and the southern half of the

United States. Severe thunderstorms capbable of producing

damaging winds, torrential downpours and a few tornadoes may

erupt in the southern Plains during the afternoon hours.

Another area of severe storms will rattle portions of

southern Minnesota and northern Iowa with similar hazards.

Showers and thunderstorms can also dampen the northern

Plains with locally heavy rain. A vortex of chilly air will

bring unseasonably cool air and a mixture of rain and snow

showers to the northern Rockies and Pacific Northwest.
