NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks took another modest step further into record territory Wednesday after several companies reported profits that were stronger than expected. Technology stocks led the way following an encouraging report from Microsoft.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 36.02 points, or 0.2 percent, to 18,595.03.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gained 9.24 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,173.02.
The Nasdaq composite rose 53.56 points, or 1.1 percent, to 5,089.93.
For the week:
The Dow is up 78.48 points, or 0.4 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 11.28 points, or 0.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 60.34 points, or 1.2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,170 points, or 6.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 129.08 points, or 6.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 82.52 points, or 1.6 percent.
