A South Carolina woman says she begged a sheriff’s deputy to stop as he forced her into a sex act earlier this summer, adding he threatened to jail her boyfriend if she refused.

And until the now-former officer was charged with misconduct on Wednesday, the woman’s attorney says she’s been worried that no one believed her harrowing allegation.

The Associated Press recently sat down for an interview with the woman and her boyfriend.

The AP isn’t identifying the couple due to the allegations of sexual abuse. But, in the exclusive interview, they described their chilling experience and said they wanted their story told in hopes of shedding light on an abuse of power scenario they wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Bond was set at $10,000 Wednesday for Dereck Johnson on a charge of misconduct in office. He appeared in court without an attorney, and there was no answer at phone listing for him.

Authorities say a former South Carolina deputy accused of forcing a woman to perform a sex act after he threatened to arrest her boyfriend is being released on bond.

A judge on Wednesday set $10,000 bond for Dereck Johnson. He also ordered Johnson to have no contact with his alleged victim and set his trial for September.

Johnson was arrested Wednesday and charged with misconduct in office.

He was one of two officers who responded to a domestic violence call last month, and a woman at the home accused Johnson of forcing her to perform oral sex on him, according to court documents. She says he threatened to arrest her boyfriend if she didn’t comply.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell quickly fired Johnson after the allegation surfaced.

The woman’s attorney says one deputy remained outside with her boyfriend while the assault happened.

Johnson told the judge he is not a threat to the community and currently doesn’t have a lawyer.

An attorney for a woman who says she was assaulted by a South Carolina sheriff’s deputy says his client can rest a little easier now that her alleged assailant is facing justice.

Justin Bamberg told reporters during a news conference Wednesday that his client feared no one would believe that she had been assaulted by a law officer.

Bamberg spoke just before a bond hearing for 35-year-old Dereck Johnson. Johnson was fired from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office last month, a day after allegedly forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him. The woman said Johnson threatened to arrest her boyfriend if she didn’t comply.

Johnson was arrested Wednesday and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of felony misconduct in office, the State Law Enforcement Division confirmed in documents.

It wasn’t immediately known if Johnson had an attorney.
