NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Authorities in Virginia say police officers responding to a report of a stabbing shot a man who approached them with a knife.
Norfolk Police spokesman Daniel Hudson tells news outlets that officers responded to a report of a stabbing about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday and found a man outside with a knife. Hudson says the man was shot when he approached officers.
Hudson says the man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with an injury that is not thought to be life-threatening and the officers were not injured.
He did not have details about the stabbing report.
It wasn’t clear how many officers were involved, but Hudson said any officers involved in a shooting are placed on administrative duty.
