NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — An opposition official says demonstrations have broken out in Kenya’s largest slum over footage appearing to show a pro-government legislator saying top opposition leader Raila Odinga can be assassinated.
Sam Ochieng, the head of the Orange Democratic Party in Kibera slum, said Tuesday that a coffin with the name of the legislator who apparently made the remarks, Moses Kuria, was burnt.
Odinga is the Orange Democratic Party leader.
An Associated Press reporter saw police fire tear gas at demonstrators, who responded with stones in running battles. Kibera is an opposition stronghold.
Kuria and five other legislators have been questioned by police over remarks that may amount to hate speech.
