Cambodian court sentences US pedophile to 10 years in prison

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — A Cambodian court has sentenced an American businessman to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing nine underage girls.

Judge Khy Chhay of Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Brian David Naswall on Tuesday after Naswall was convicted on charges of purchasing child prostitution for his sexual abuse of nine girls ranging from 5 to 15 years old from 2011 to 2015.

The 53-year-old Naswall is the CEO of Aero Cambodia, a small aviation company based in Phnom Penh.

Poverty and poor law enforcement have made Cambodia a magnet for foreign pedophiles, but in recent years the authorities have increasingly cracked down on sex offenders.

Naswall’s lawyer, Mon Vimean Champa, said she would confer with her client on whether to file an appeal.
