MPHS competes in Fair Weather Relays

The Madison-Plains boys and girls track and field teams had decent showings at the Fair Weather Relays at Chillicothe’s Bobo Track Saturday, March 26.

The boys team scored 36 points and finished seventh out of the 11 teams competing. The girls squad finished with 12 points which placed it ninth out of 11 teams.

The boys event was won by Zane Trace (91) which was followed by Fairland (70), Chillicothe (64), Teays Valley (62), Washington Court House (43.5), Alexander (37), Plains, Westfall (320, Leesburg Fairfield (32), Huntington (16.5) and Chillicothe B (six).

The boys team got a second-place finish in the Triple Jump relay, clearing a combined total of 107’-06”. The Golden Eagles competing in the event included Levi Garnder, Jaxson Hay and Dillan Rice.

Rice and Gardner along with Gage Farmer were members of the third-place finishing long jump relay (53’-2 2/3”).

Rice had a productive day as he was also on the school’s pole vault relay that placed third (27’-00”). He was joined by Ben Fisher and Griffin Jones.

The 4 x 200-meter relay team of Rice, Gardner, Jones and Emerson Hill placed fourth (1:40.4) as did the shuttle hurdle relay team of Joseph Siler, Dustin Grube, Hay and Jones (1:22.8).

The other placers on the boys side included a seventh-place finish for the sprint medley relay group (1:51.6) of Emerson Hill, Jarrett Hill, Gardner and Fisher. The 4 x 800 relay team was also eighth (10:09) with Emerson Hill, Grube, Farmer and Fisher. The school’s shot put trio of Cooley, Alex Wijnands and Dathan Pollard was eighth with a combined distance of 84’-04”.

Other boys events where the Golden Eagles competed but didn’t place included the discus (212’) with Cooley, Wijnands and Boone and the distance medley relay team of Grube, Farmer, Hay and Fisher (12:34.8).

The girls event was won by Washington (82.5) which edged Fairland (81). The rest of the meet saw Chillicothe place third (74) followed by Westfall (72), Zane Trace (65), Alexander (39), Leesburg Fairfield (25.5), Teays Valley (22), Plains, Huntington (nine) and Chillicothe B (three).

The Golden Eagles’ top finish was posted by the high jump relay trio of Blair Bryant, Elizabeth MacDowell and Sarah Stonerock (12’-08”) which finished fourth.

The discus relay was sixth with a combined distance of 182’-09”. The competitors included Maddy Manning, Brook Bryant and Blair Bryant.

Brook Bryant and Manning were joined by Christa Charles in finishing eighth in the shot put relay (59’-08”).

On the track the Lady Eagles foursome of Sarah and Abbey Stonerock, Sierra Lapasky and Manning placed eighth in the 800 relay (2:15.5), the 400 relay (1:02.5) and the sprint medley relay (2:24.4).

The girls shuttle hurdle relay failed to place (1:29.3). The members of that team were MacDowell, Blair Bryant, Lapasky and Sarah Stonerock.
