MECHANICSBURG — Raining champs.
The Jonathan Alder Middle School girls track team came up on top in the weather-shortened Mechanicsburg Middle School Invitational, held Friday, April 6. West Jefferson placed fifth and London 10th out of the 12 participating schools in the abbreviated meet.
Scoring for the Alder girls included — Evie McDaniel and Olivia Zuro registering points in high jump, Ranlyah Brown placed fifth in discus, Ana Medici and Laura Detweiler placed in the 100 hurdles, Olivia Finke finished first in the 100-meter dash, with Hailey Lisska earning points in the same race, Alexis Frick and Reggan Gray placed one-two respectively in the 1,600 run, and the school ran to first place in 4×100 relay.
For West Jefferson, Lilla Ryzha captured first in discus, Mikayla Jewell placed third in the 1600, and the squad was third in the 4×100 relay. London’s points came from Brooklyn Sims finishing second in high jump and Kierra Fraysier coming fourth in the 1,600.
Regarding the boys, three Madison County schools placed in the top five with London second, West Jefferson fourth and Jonathan Alder fifth.
London was led by the tandem of Isaiah Jones and Jake Belmont. Jones won both the shot put and 110m hurdles, while Belmont finished second in the hurdles and third in pole vault.
West Jefferson had two scorers in the shot put with Jacob Markley third and Michael Pettry fourth. Aiden Clerico was second in the 1,600.
Points for Jonathan Alder were garnered by Matthew Perkey in the 110 hurdles, Grant Welsch’s triumphant victory in the 1600 run, while teammate Sergey Duff also placed in that race.
All three teams received points in the 4x100m relay, with West Jefferson having the highest finish in fourth.
