Alder girls seeded third

The Jonathan Alder girls soccer team has spent most of the season ranked among the very best Division II teams in the state.

The Lady Pioneers (13-1-1) were ranked 12th in the latest state coaches poll and have been as high as ninth this season. They were tabbed as the No. 3 seed in the upcoming D-II Central District tournament. Alder will host No. 15 Columbus International at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16.

The winner will advance to play either No. 7 Bishop Hartley or No. 11 London on Thursday, Oct. 19.

London (5-9-1) will open the postseason on the road at Hartley (4-10-1) on Monday.

A year ago Alder lost in a D-II district final, the year prior the squad won a district championship. This season Alder is 7-1-1 in Central Buckeye Conference play and will finish second behind league champion Springfield Shawnee.

D-III

The Lady Roughriders (7-7) of West Jefferson are the ninth seed in D-III and will play at No. 8 Amanda-Clearcreek (9-6-1) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The winner of the West Jeff-Amanda affair will advance to face No. 1 seed Grandview Oct. 19.

Madison-Plains is the 15th seed (out of 15) and will open the tourney at No. 2 seed Columbus Academy Tuesday. The winner will advance to the second round and will face either No. 7 Columbus School for Girls or No. 10 Fisher Catholic.
