The London High School football team is undefeated and people across the state of Ohio are beginning to take notice.
The Red Raiders (4-0), coming off a commanding 38-28 win over Columbus Academy Friday, a contest in which London never trailed, are ranked No. 7 in the latest Division IV Associated Press Ohio High School Poll.
Coach Kyle Cutler’s squad is the only Madison County team in this week’s rankings. He will have to keep his team grounded as it heads to Circleville Friday for a clash with the Tigers (2-2).
The schools currently ranked ahead of the Raiders in the D-IV state poll are No. 1 Steubenville and No. 2 Perry, followed by Germantown Valley View, Bellville Clear Fork, Poland Seminary and Clinton-Massie. Ranked in the Top 10 behind the Raiders is Shelby, Cincinnati Wyoming and Oberlin Firelands.
It may be a touch too early to start thinking about the postseason, but three Madison County schools are sitting pretty if the postseason were to begin this weekend.
London is currently second in the Division IV, Region 16 standings with 8.55 points. Germantown Valley View is tops in the region with 8.6 points. Jonathan Alder (3-1) is fourth in the Region 16 standings with 8.175.
In Division V, Region 20 West Jefferson (4-0) is currently seventh with 4.9551 points.
The top eight teams in each region will qualify for the OHSAA state football playoffs.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its first weekly football computer ratings on Tuesday. The weekly computer ratings are released every Tuesday afternoon beginning in the fifth week of the season, leading up to the final report on Sunday, Oct. 29, when 224 schools will officially qualify for the playoffs.
