After battling Greeneview to a tie in its first game of the season, the Madison-Plains Junior High football team defeated Northeastern 20-6 in its home opener Thursday, Sept. 7.
A second-quarter touchdown run by running back Cody Miller gave the Golden Eagles a 6-0 lead.
Northeastern struck with a defensive touchdown just before halftime to tie the game 6-6.
Madison-Plains used its running game to wear down the Jets in the second half as the offensive line cleared the way for two Tyson Guiette touchdowns. Miller added a two-point conversion to push the lead to 20-6.
The Golden Eagles defense did not allow any points and forced four turnovers. Defensive tackle Scotty Sanford had multiple sacks, linebacker Cainan Kelly had two fumble recoveries and an interception and cornerback Daltyn “Shaggy” Allen intercepted his second pass of the season.
The Golden Eagles will play at home against Fairbanks on Thursday, Sept. 14, with the eighth grade game coming shortly after the seventh grade game which starts at 5 p.m.
