The Jonathan Alder High School football team was unable to pick up its third win of the season Friday, Sept. 8 as it suffered a disappointing 28-14 loss at Clear Fork.
Alder (2-1) fell behind early and couldn’t recover. Clear Fork (3-0) scored twice in the first quarter on a 25-yard run by Jared Schaefer and a 28-yard run by Blake Dinsmore.
The Pioneers answered with a 68-yard scoring strike from Preston Eisnaugle to Dalton Potts, Ethan Gordin added the PAT.
Clear Fork however responded with a touchdown late in the second quarter when Dinsmore found Trevor Trammell on a 49-yard pass play, sending the Colts to the half with a 21-7 lead. Dinsmore capped a strong night with a 23-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to put his team ahead 28-7.
Jonathan Alder scored with just over a minute to go in the game when Eisnaugle took it in from 1-yard out.
The formula for success for the Pioneers up to this point was based around the team’s ability to lineup and play smash-mouth football. Clear Fork completely took that away. Alder rushed 23 times for a grand total of just 7 yards.
Playing from behind for most of the game the Pioneers threw the ball a lot more than usual. Eisnaugle was 23 for 45 for 314 yards.
Potts had four catches for 112 yards, Jamie Dye had five catches for 57 yards and Bryan Blacka had nine catches for 135 yards in the loss.
Alder will try to get back on track Friday, Sept. 15, when it plays host to Benjamin Logan (2-1) in the Pioneers first-ever Central Buckeye Conference game. Ben Logan is coming off a 42-19 thrashing of Upper Scioto Valley. Kickoff Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
