London JV edges MPHS

The London Red Raider JV football team traveled to Madison-Plains and edged the host Eagles 22-16 Saturday, Sept. 2.

Late in the first quarter Darian Huff intercepted a Ryan Ernst pass and returned it to the Eagle’s 9-yard line. On the first play after the turnover, Caleb Sollars raced in from 9-yards away for the first score of the game. Sollars added the 2-point conversion and the Red led 8-0.

The Eagles answered right back on their next possession when Ernst passed four yards to Dalton Sparks for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion run by Kosta Xenekis evened the score 8-8. Early in the second quarter London marched to the goal line and Sollars scored again on a 2-yard run, but the extra point was no good leaving it 14-8 Raiders.

Late in the third quarter, London moved down the field and scored on a 17-yard pass from Ethan Minner to Noah McClintock. Sollars added the 2-point conversion for a 22-8 London advantage.

Early in the fourth quarter Madison-Plains punted, but London muffed the punt and lost the ball on its 32-yard line. From there the Eagles drove to the 5-yard line in eight plays before Ernst hit Paul Bryant with a 5-yard scoring strike. Byron Hamilton added the two extra points, and the score stood 22-16 with six minutes to play.

Each squad had two possessions in the time remaining, but on a 4th-down play, London’s McClintock picked off Ernst to seal the game for the Raiders.

On the London offensive side Sollars led all rushers with 128 yards rushing. Plain’s Byron Hamilton had 65 yards. The Raiders’ Minner had 41 yards passing with a TD and McClintock caught a TD pass. Sparks and Bryant had TD catches from Ernst for Madison-Plains High School.

On the Raider defensive side, Richie Geib had 11 tackles including two for losses. Huff had seven tackles including one for a loss, while Colton Cleaver also had seven tackles (three for losses) for London.

London’s JV season continues Saturday, Sept. 9 at home against Washington Court House. Kickoff is slated for 10 a.m.
