LMS teams roll Greenfield


The London Middle School football teams picked off where they left off a year ago, as they cruised to a pair of season-opening victories Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Seventh grade

The seventh grade Red Raiders hosted the Greenfield McClain Tigers at Bowlus Field and came away with 44-0 win.

The Raiders opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 55-yard punt return by Tim Seagle, a 24-yard run by Sean Johns and a 27-yard pass play from Brady Carter to Jacob Payne.

Johns scored his second touchdown of the game on 6-yard run in the second quarter. Carter found the endzone on a 35-yard run in the third and Seagle scored on a 12-yard run.

The Raiders offense was led by Carter with 96 yards rushing and Johns with 74 yards on the ground. Carter threw for 48 yards and Payne had the 27 yards receiving.

The defensive side was led by Johns with eight tackles and Seagle with seven, including five and a half for losses. Greenfield was held to one total yard by the Big Red defense.

Eighth grade

The eighth grade team also hosted the Tigers in the second game and whitewashed them 54-0.

Antwaun Burns scored on first quarter runs of 15 and 51 yards, while Isaiah Jones hauled in a 25-yard scoring strike from Dylan Combs.

Later in the first half Trey Russell returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a touchdown. Combs raced 45 yards for a score. Burns hooked up for a 21-yard scoring strike from Combs and Brady Fisher scored on a 36-yard run. Extra points were scored by Burns +4, Carson Greenhill +6.

The Raiders offense was led in rushing by Russell’s 61 yards. Combs passed for 130 yards and Burns had two receptions for 94 yards.

The London defense was led by Jonathan Schooley with six tackles, including four for losses. Russell had four tackles, all of which were for losses. The Red Raiders had three fumble recoveries and three interceptions for the night. The Tiger offense total amounted to a minus 51 yards.

Both London teams are 1-0 on the season and travels to Chillicothe next week to take on the Cavaliers.
