Trio enters WJ Hall of Fame

The newest class of former standouts will be inducted into the West Jefferson Athletics Hall of Fame Friday, Aug. 25, just prior to the Roughriders’ season-opening game against the Columbus Crusaders.

Carla Tobias (1992-95), Sam Kershaw (2004-07) and Joey Inks (2004-07) were nominated by the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and then voted on by the community of Roughrider Club members.

Tobias was a three-sport letterwinner for the Roughriders playing volleyball, basketball and softball. She was a three-time first team All-Buckeye Athletic Conference in volleyball. She was first team All-Central District, first team All-BAC and the BAC Player of the Year. She went on to letter two years at Malone College in softball and a year in basketball. She also earned a varsity letter in softball at Ohio State University.

Kershaw was a four-year letter winner in football at West Jefferson and went on to play the sport at Mount Union College where he was a starting linebacker on a D-III National Championship team. He was a first team All-Ohio performer in high school while earning multiple all-league, all-county and all-district honors in his four years.

Inks, was a four-year letterwinner in both football and wrestling. In football he was a second team All-Ohio selection in football and played at Ohio University. In wrestling he won 135 career matches and was a placer at the state championship tournament. He was named to multiple all league and all district squads during his high school years.
