LABC recognizes sponsors

The London Area Baseball Council (LABC) recently thanked its “Major League Contributors” by giving them commemorative baseball bats.

LABC was established in 1968. The organization developed as a result of the combination of the London Little League Organization and the Minor League Program at St. Patrick’s. The original board was comprised of 15 members, and they were tasked with searching for possible sites for new baseball fields. The LABC members along with their chairman, the current mayor at the time, decided that the new landfill site on Toland Street would be the location for the fields. That dedicated group of community members completed numerous fundraisers to help raise enough money to develop Burr-Wheeler Park.

Today, LABC provides T-ball and baseball programs for youth ranging in ages from four to 15. This year, the program provided services to more than 300 youths in Madison County. Burr-Wheeler hosts games for the T-ball league, the pitching-machine league for youths ranging in age from six to eight, and the 10u and 12u Midwest Buckeye Leagues. Games are held at the facility at least six days per week.

The sponsors are a vital part of the league. Without the help of local businesses, it would be nearly impossible to keep the league in operation. Those who participate and donate $500 or more are considered “Major League Contributors” and receive: Listing on the LABC website, custom banner display at Burr Park, an opportunity to throw out pitch at preseason tournament, business name listed on the jersey of a team in the league, media photo opportunity to be included on the website, printed in The Madison Press and a commemorative bat.

If you or your organization are interested in donating for the 2018 season contact LABC at 740-604-0975.
