Bob Powers Classic raises funds

The Madison Health Foundation’s Bob Powers Classic celebrated its 28th anniversary in cool and picturesque weather Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Thursday, Aug. 10 at the London Country Club. Each year this event raises thousands of dollars to improve healthcare services in Madison County.

This year, all proceeds from the golf outing supported the Building on Excellence campaign.

The $6 million campaign supports the construction of a new two-story addition on the Madison Health campus. The 24,000 square foot facility will include a new emergency department on the first floor and Cancer Center on the second floor.

“Madison Health is committed to providing quality care for our community,” said Kelly Snyder, vice president of development at Madison Health. “The expansion and renovation project ensures that we will be able to continue to care for patients in a modern facility. We are excited about this project and thankful for the support generated from the Bob Powers Classic.”

At this year’s two-day golf event, players competed in both individual and team competitions.

Wednesday’s 18 four-person golf teams competed in a shamble with awards for both the low gross team and the low net team.

Low Gross Team: Sue Hackett, Bob Hackett, Robert Wood and Joe Reinhard

Low Net Team: Patrick Campbell, Ryan Parrish, John Thompson and Pat Campbell

Thursday morning’s nine four-person golf teams competed in a par 3 scramble. The winning team was Allen Toombs, Jennifer Piccione, Austin Smith and Tracy Stewart.

Thursday afternoon’s 11 six-person golf teams competed in a classic scramble. The winning team was Tracy Stewart, Bruce Vetter, Austin Smith, Jeff Harris, Matt Robinson and Kevin Long.

Golfers also competed individually for closest to the pin and longest putt on two specific holes. The winners in the men’s competition were Vince Jones, Bill Emerick and Tim Roby for closest to the pin and Dr. Stephen Olson for longest putt. In the ladies’ competition, Melissa Thompson won closest to the pin and Margie Deyo won longest putt.

Back by popular demand, the event featured an old fashioned picnic and ice cream social on Thursday evening. Highlights included live music from Dan Blazer and Chris Carabin, and an ice cream sundae bar, sponsored by Bluebird Retirement Community.

Madison Health and the Foundation would like to thank all the sponsors, golfers and volunteers that made this year’s Bob Powers Classic a success. With the support of the community at events like these, Madison Health has raised $3.2 million of its $6 million Building on Excellence campaign goal.

“We are overwhelmed by the continued support of the community, who helped us surpass last year’s fundraising efforts,” said Liz Lynch, development coordinator at Madison Health. “We are incredibly thankful and hope to see everyone out on the course next year on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9.”
