The Jonathan Alder boys golf team made a loud statement in its first appearance as a member of the Central Buckeye Conference.
The Pioneers easily won their division of the CBC Preseason Tournament held at the Urbana Country Club Wednesday, Aug. 9, doing so by a whopping 24 strokes.
Alder fired a 330 and walked away with the Kenton Trail Division title, finishing well ahead of Bellefontaine (354), Shawnee (362), Kenton Ridge (369) and Tecumseh (409).
Jonathan Alder High School got consistency as all four of its scores ranged from 80 to 84. Hayden Mitchell shot an 80, Joey Petrella came in with an 82 and Mychal McKelvey and Tyler Hilbert had matching rounds of 84.
The other half of the league, the Mad River Division, had St. Paris Graham (352) winning a tiebreaker with Urbana (352) and taking home the preseason title. The other scores included Benjamin Logan (363), Northwestern (372) and Indian Lake (451).
MPHS places second
The Golden Eagles fired a round of 207 and finished second at the Locust Hills Invitational Thursday, Aug. 10.
Springfield Shawnee won the tourney with a score of 194. The rest of the field had Plains (207), Bishop Ready (223), Westfall (225), Southeastern (225) and Mechanicsburg (235).
Rachel Weis led Madison-Plains High School with a round of 49. Connor Hunter finished with a 50, Regan Rubel came in with a 52, Kailee Rhoads shot a 56 and Bryanna Dodds carded a 73.
