Baseball options for 9-10 year old boys in London will be expanding soon.
Without a local travel baseball option available to those who want a more serious and competitive baseball playing experience, London residents Tim and Seth Reay are starting the London Warriors.
“We’re putting together a 10u team and will play in a travel league down at Ohio State,” Tim Reay said. “There aren’t any options for travel baseball out here and we want to give kids a chance to see better competition and play a higher level of baseball.”
The London Warriors will conduct tryouts Aug. 6 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the baseball diamond behind St. Patrick School. Boys ages 9 or 10 years old are encouraged to tryout, players cannot turn 11 before May 15, 2018.
The only local option for those looking to play baseball right now is through LABC. Reay is looking to put something together much like he did back in the late ’90s when he helped run a couple travel teams on which his son played. Now with his grandson playing, he’s ready to get back into it.
“If kids want to get better, they’ve got to play better competition,” Reay said. “Travel ball helps get them ready for middle school and high school ball. Just seeing better pitching and better teams will make them better.”
He’s hoping for a roster of 11 or 12 players which will play in the Big League Baseball program played at OSU. The program allows travel teams to play a doubleheader one day a week in the summer. Reay sees this Warriors team also playing in a collection of tournaments around the area.
Those looking to tryout will need to bring their glove, cleats, bat, helmet and copy of birth certificate.
The rain date for the tryout will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 13.
