Both of the Jonathan Alder boys and girls track and field teams find themselves in fifth place after the first day of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Red Division Championship meet being held at Marion Pleasant.
The Pioneers boys team scored 18 points and sits in fifth behind Galion (46), River Valley (45), Pleasant (42) and Marion Harding (23). The squad is ahead of Buckeye Valley (14) and North Union (12) heading into the second and final day of competition today back at Pleasant, starting at 4 p.m.
The boys 3,200 relay team placed fourth (8:39.93) in the only track event final.
Senior Matt Seimer earned a third place in the high jump (6-01) and was also sixth in the long jump (18-10.75). In other individual action, freshman Daniel Heinig was third in the shot put with a toss of 42-06.25.
The Lady Pioneers’ 13 points scored were well behind Galion (56), Pleasant (47), River Valley (46) and Buckeye Valley (18.5). The team is ahead of North Union (12) and Marion Harding (11.5).
Alder won the 3,200 relay in 10:14.49, finishing more than 20 seconds ahead of second-place Galion (10:35.20). Its only other points on day one came from freshman Helena Hall, who placed fifth in the long jump (14-04.5).
