Plains 8th graders cruise

Staff report

The eighth grade Madison-Plains football team jumped out to an early lead on host Southeastern Thursday evening, Aug. 27 and never looked back, cruising to a 37-0 victory.

In a first half featured five different players scoring touchdowns as well as the first successful kicked extra point try in recent team history.

Madison-Plains proved it was ready to play when it stepped off the bus. Quarterback Jarrett Vallery started the first quarter barrage with an impressive scoring run and then found Michael Collins over the middle for a second score. Drew Howerton kicked the extra point through the uprights for a 13-0 lead.

The scoring continued with touchdown runs from Steven Ward and Wyatt Eades. Vallery added another touchdown on the ground, before connecting with Joey Grigsby for his second touchdown pass of the game.

Head coach Dave Thompson was proud of his team’s play in this opening game and coach Travis Chaffin’s defense was able to keep the Trojans off the scoreboard. The Golden Eagles look to continue their momentum when they face West Jefferson on Sept 8.
