Ohio Wesleyan 75,

Wooster 47

Senior guard Megan Kuether (Osgood/Marion Local) scored four points and freshman wing Claire Sterling (West Jefferson) hit a 3-pointer during a 9-0 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead for good, and Sterling added 10 points as the Bishops pulled away with a 17-0 second-quarter run on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wooster on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Branch Rickey Arena.

Freshman post Elea Karras (Bellbrook/Miami Valley) and Wooster’s Kylie Orr traded 3-pointers in the early going before the Bishops took the lead with a lay-in by freshman wing Nicole Popovich (Rocky River). Sterling connected on a 3-pointer to give Ohio Wesleyan an 8-3 lead midway through the first quarter, and Kuether hit 4 consecutive free throws for a 12-3 Bishop lead with 3:01 left.

A 3-pointer by senior post Taylor Dickson (Baltimore/Liberty Union) and 2 more Kuether free throws opened up a 19-9 Ohio Wesleyan lead, but the Fighting Scots closed out the quarter with another Orr 3-pointer to pull within 19-12.

Ohio Wesleyan scored the first 17 points of the second quarter, getting a Popovich lay-in and a 3-point play by Sterling before 3-pointers from Sterling and sophomore wing Erin Delaney (Toledo/Notre Dame Academy). Sterling and Dickson followed with lay-ins before Sterling sank a pair of free throws to wrap up the run and give the Bishops a 36-12 lead.

The Fighting Scots closed to within 19 points, first on a Rachel Collins 3-pointer and then again after a pair of free throws from Anna Gibbs, but that was as close as Wooster would come.

Kuether led the Bishops with 18 points and 6 assists. Sterling scored a season-high 15 points, Dickson added 12 points, and Popovich finished with 10 points and a season-best 14 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.

Akwia Tilton led Wooster with 12 points.
