People ask me questions all the time. Some of those questions I can answer, some I cannot answer and some I will not answer. I wish people would ask me questions I could answer and look good about it. However, it never happens.Sometimes my friends (both of them), will ask me a question, “What is a shoofly pie?”With something as marvelous and wonderful as a shoofly pie, where do you start to explain all of its delicacies?

Your pastor is on the front line

It’s very easy to be a “Monday Morning Quarterback.”In the almost 40 years of ministry, I have heard it all. You’d think the church would be more considerate of things. You’d think that God’s people would be more tolerant and supportive of things. Yet, I have heard statements like this and you probably have too:“I’m just not getting anything out of his sermons anymore.”“I’m not getting fed spiri...

When Robin Williams died last week, apparently by his own hand, it shocked everyone.Williams was an undisputed comic genius, known primarily for his uncanny ability to “free style” through comedy riffs that saw him morph seamlessly from one character to another and rattle off a stream-of-conscious monologue that was difficult for an audience to follow, let alone nearly impossible to imagine creating. In retrospect, it is all too easy to understand now that suc...

Across Ohio, good stories are not hard to find

Turn on the news or open a paper and it seems as though the world is falling apart. From gridlock in Washington to chaos in the Middle East to war and tragedy in eastern Ukraine, bad news dominates the airwaves. But I am privileged in my job as your senator to work with ordinary Ohioans who are doing extraordinary things. I’d like to take a moment to share some of their stories.
