“What a wonderful museum you have right here in London! I’m telling my sister in Columbus she needs to come here and see this.”
Those were the comments of a woman from Oregon who attended Jonathan Alder Days last September at the Madison County Historical Society.
I had been working on some quilt blocks I had taken to that event. Wearing my pioneer bonnet and apron I talked with visitors about quilting, in particular the log cabin quilt that I was demonstrating with plans of donating it to the museum to raffle.
Another visitor told me the thing she liked best about the museum. “It isn’t just about famous people but also about ordinary people.” She and her teenage son liked the cigar store.
Madison County has a treasure close to home and I’m using the words of those museum visitors to encourage you to stop out and enjoy the displays and local history.
The museum is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
The completed log cabin quilt is now on display at the museum.
