The Huntsman Select Eighth Grade Black AAU basketball team traveled to Akron last weekend to play in the freshman bracket of the King James Tournament.


Pool play started on Friday, April 25, for the girls as they came up short against Ladies First 41-21 and ADS Express (ninth grade team) 49-32, before defeating Hoop Smart (51-32).


First-round tournament play started that night and ended with a Hunstman 44-34 win over ADS Express (eighth grade). The team advanced to the semifinals on Saturday, April 26, where it got a rematch with the ADS Express (ninth grade) this time defeating them 47-41 to advance to the championship game.


In the championship game, it again came up short against the Ladies First team, falling 47-44. The team was forced to settle for the runner-up trophy in the freshman division. The Huntsman Select teams will play next at Wittenberg University on Saturday, May 3.
