All the high school baseball and softball teams from Madison County played teams from outside of the county on Wednesday, April 23, and for the most part the outcomes were quite enjoyable.

London 15,

Wo. Christian 9

The Red Raiders (4-9, 2-6) went on the road and returned with a victory thanks in large part to being able to take advantage of their opportunities.

The team only had eight hits but was able to produce 15 runs by delivering timely hitting and taking advantage of six errors committed by the host Warriors.

London scored seven runs in the fourth inning and tacked on six more in the top of seventh.

Brok Bennett started the game on the mound for the Red Raiders but was long gone by the time the game was decided. Zac Carey, who came into pitch in the seventh inning picked up the victory.

Jonathan Alder 11,

River Valley 1

6 innings

The Pioneers (8-3, 4-3) enacted a little revenge from a game just over a week ago by going to River Valley and topping the Raiders.

In the first game between the two teams Valley shut down Alder’s potent offense 2-0, but that wasn’t the case this time around as the Pioneers banged out 14 hits.

Senior catcher Trent Kaltenbach led the way going 4 for 5 and hitting for the cycle while driving in three runs. Luke Nees had three hits of his own and Mitchell Eye had two hits and a pair of RBI.

Starting pitcher Tanner Gaerke got the win for Alder as he surrendered just three hits and allowed just one run.

Bexley 6,

West Jefferson 3

8 innings

The visiting Lions scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to capture an evenly matched contest between two of the best teams in the MSL Ohio.

West Jeff scored three runs in the second inning and was ahead 3-0 until Bexley came to bat in the sixth inning. The visitors scored three in the frame and tacked on three more in the extra inning.

The Roughriders (10-4, 6-2) dropped out of a tie for first place in the league. The team now ties with Bexley one game behind Columbus Academy.

London 18,

Wo. Christian 7

The hot-hitting Raiders (7-6, 5-2) were on top of their game as they scored 18 runs, collected 17 hits and cruised to an easy victory.

London found itself tied 1-1 after the first inning, but proceeded to score nine runs in the second inning alone to break open the game.

The pitching trio of Lauren Miller, Shelby Long and Rachel Long combined to allow just seven hits to the Warriors in the win.

At the plate Aliyah Hiram had five singles, Talia Frye had a single, double and three RBI, Baylee Semler has three hits and Rachel Long had two singles. Ally Farley hit a home run and Christina Wells had a single and two RBI.

Jonathan Alder 8,

River Valley 3

Another game, another win.

The Lady Pioneers (14-1, 7-0) are playing as well as any team in Central Ohio and host River Valley got a first hand look as Alder pushed its win streak to 14 games in a row.

Mady Watson surrendered three runs on five hits in picking up the win inside the circle. Alder scored eight runs on 10 hits, that included three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

West Jefferson 11,

Bexley 10

The Roughriders (11-3, 7-0) seem to have a flair for the dramatic.

They once again fell behind, but came roaring back and got a solo walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning from Emily Stevenson in a thrilling victory.

West Jeff trailed 7-0 after the first two inning, rallied to get within a run after six inning and scored in the bottom of the seventh to tie things at 10, setting the stage for the late-game heroics.
