WESTERVILLE — Otterbein University’s equestrian team finished as the Reserve Champion team at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Championship horse show held on April 12-13 at Averett University in Danville, Va. Coach Kari Briggs also received the Teresa L. McDonald Coach of the Year Award.


The team consisted of senior Julia Spatt of Castle Rock, Colo., at First level with a second-place finish; sophomore Kailey Giancola of Jordan, Minn., at Upper Training with a third-place finish; junior Becca Knopf of San Rafael, Calif., at Lower Training with a fourth-place finish; and junior Natalie Walter of Akron, Ohio, at Intro with a fourth-place finish.


The Otterbein team finished the regular season as the champions of Region E and finished second out of the 54 teams competing at the national championships. Competitors in Region E include Bethany College, W.Va.; Miami University, Ohio; College of Wooster, Ohio; Midway College, Ky.; and University of Kentucky.
