Jonathan Alder joins MOAC, starting in 2013

It’s official: Jonathan Alder has joined the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference, starting with the 2013-14 season.

The conference will split into divisions with the Pioneers going into the West Division. They will be joined by Fairbanks, North Union, Buckeye Valley, Elgin, Pleasant and River Valley.

“We were considering anything reasonable travel-wise and competition-wise,” Jonathan Alder High School principal Phil Harris said. “We were going to jump on it. We’ve been looking to join a league for a long time.”

I would rather stay independent until a better opportunity presents itself. I would be curious to know if Alder were ever contacted by the OCC or reached out to the OCC. Alder has great tradition and would have only added to the impressive list of schools that make up the OCC. I do not think the MOAC will do Alder justice. Nothing against the teams in the MOAC, however I only see a couple good teams in the MOAC, tops. Review the college signings in the MOAC for 2010-2011. I think that will tell you the story.

MOAC. Not really happy about this choice. Alder will dominate the MOAC not sure who can compete.. Pleasent Football about it.. The Marion area is down and people are moving out. I think heading west was the better option, lets see Buckeye Valley, Pleasent, River Valley. Those sure aren’t Dublins, or Hilliards, Watterson, Thomas Worthington, DeSales, Hartley. I sure hope we don’t go backwards in our goals to Win District and State Championships. Alder’s won numerous District titles in the past 2 years in Baseball, Girls Basketball, Bowling, Football.. It’s nice to be in a league, Just wish the overall schools was larger.

Too bad the SCOL was too scared to take them in. Would have been nice to see them battle it out with Massie every year for the league championship in football. JA will dominate the MOAC in several sports. IMHO, they should be in the OCC, They have been playing some of the DII schools in various sports & winning their fair share. It would better prepare them for tournament play. On a side note, Madison-Plains needs to GET OUT of the SCOL. They are by far the smallest school in the league & have no continuity in their athletic dept. Hard to build a program when you have constant turnover. They should consider trying to get in to a smaller conference, ie: Ohio Heritage Conf.
