Dear Editor,

As Head Coach of the Jonathan Alder Lady Pioneers softball team, I would like to use this forum to publicly recognize and thank multiple parties that played a memorable part in the success of our very special 2014 season. This team will go down in school history as being the first team to win a DII district and regional title, upsetting the defending state champions in the state semifinal game, and making it all the way to the 2014 state championship game. The team has so much to be proud of and has planted seeds for future generations and young girls that will follow them.

First, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Chris Miles, your Sports Editor, for his exceptional coverage of our team during the season. We could always depend on Chris to write accurate and memorable articles. In addition, I would like to thank Jay Gehres and Diane Spagnuolo for the wonderful photographs that accompanied many of the articles; they truly captured the emotion of each and every game.

I would also like to thank Bernie Keeney, a close friend of the team, who volunteered numerous hours attending both home and away games for the full duration of the season, documenting our magical run through fantastic photographs, posters, videos and slide shows. Bernie is a very talented photographer, and we were fortunate to have him alongside us during our victorious season.

Thanks go out to Enola Miller, our team’s biggest fan, who captured our stats and left a lasting impression on each and every one of our girls. We love her loyalty to Jonathan Alder sports and can’t thank her enough for her dedication to the softball program. We hope she had just as much fun as we did this season!

Enormous thanks to all of the parents, family and friends of our team, and to the entire Jonathan Alder community who supported us in any way during our season. The team slogan for the season was to win it “For the Village” and the Village certainly came through for us! We so appreciate the attendance of school board members, administrators, teachers, support staff and what seemed like the entire Village of Plain City that attended our games during regular season and in Pickerington, Mason and Akron. You are the best and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We were especially happy to see so many up and coming softball players cheering us on to victory!

One memory the girls will never forget is leaving by bus to drive to Akron for the state championship game and being escorted out of Plain City by the Plain City Police Department and the Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District Station 261 Fire Department. Wow! That was special. Thank you!

I personally want to thank my incredible coaching staff. The time, passion and energy that each of them put into the season is beyond measure. I am a fortunate coach, who is blessed to be part of the best team of game planning and teaching coaches.

A winning season like this doesn’t just magically happen without hard work, sacrifice and dedication. We remember and recognize all of the former coaches and talented players that laid the foundation leading up to this winning season. We hope that we have made all of you proud!

Last but not least, thank you to the team. You worked hard, played hard and created memories to last a life time. Thank you for being focused, coachable, hard workers who care about team success more than your individual success. You have energized a community with your will to win! Congrats!
