Two Scioto County communities are coming together to raise funds for a Scioto County man who is currently on the National Liver Transplant list.
Kevin Kennedy is from Minford and his wife, Melissa Kennedy is from South Webster, so friends in both places have planned for an all-day event to take place on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in front of South Webster schools. The event, titled Karing for Kevin is to support his new liver fund. In addition an account is set up at the Atomic Employees Credit Union if anyone would like to make a donation.
“It’s going to be an all-day thing,” Melissa Kennedy said. “We’re starting out with a 5K. We’re going to do a charity ride with motorcycles. We’re going to have gospel and bluegrass music all day. There will be food. We have several vendors who are coming, raffles, inflatables and face painting for the kids. It’s an all-day thing.”
Registration for the 5K will begin at around 8:15 a.m. and the run is set to begin at 9 a.m. Anyone wanting a T-shirt, should register in advance by calling 740-285-3548.
A 3 on 3 basketball tournament will begin at 9 a.m., as well as a golf challenge at 9 a.m. with the charity ride scheduled to begin at noon and there will also be an alumni volleyball game at noon.
For refreshments, there will be vendor booths, shaved ice, lemonade shake-ups, kettle corn, pulled pork, hot dogs, baked beans, slaw, chips, pop and homemade desserts.
Kennedy said some 40 sponsors throughout the area have come through to help with the event.
“It’s going to be a wonderful day event,” Kennedy said.
