Portsmouth City Manager Derek Allen was conspicuous by his absence at Monday’s Portsmouth City Council meeting, but he had a very good reason for not making the meeting. According to a letter to members of City Council from Renee Matiz, Allen’s Administrative Assistant, Allen was injured in a fall.

The letter said Allen suffered the accident at his home in Piqua, Ohio Saturday afternoon. Matiz said, while making some repairs to his roof, Allen fell about 10 feet landing on his deck below.

“The good news is he did not suffer any life-threatening injuries,” Matiz said in her correspondence to Council. “But he is suffering some soft tissue injury, swelling and pain.”

Matiz said Allen requested that his conference agenda be pushed back to the next meeting scheduled for Aug. 28.
