According to a report from the Champaign County Board of Elections, 85th House District candidate Dave Easton has withdrawn from the race.

The Constitution Party candidate and a Sidney resident, withdrew his candidacy in a letter to the board dated March 19th according to director Kathy Meyer.

Meyer said he gave no reason in the letter for removing his name from the ring.

Easton’s name will remain on the general election ballot, but Meyer said that notices will be posted indicating votes for him will not be counted.

The write-in deadline for the general election is Aug. 25, and independent candidates have until May 5 at 4 p.m. to file.

If no other candidates file before the general deadline, the winner of the Republican primary will go unopposed in the general election. Doug Chamberlain, Robert Luckey and Nino Vitale are the primary candidates.
